Tips on car hire in Brazil
-
1 Participate in the vehicle’s inspection
Getting involved in the vehicle’s inspection before you pick it up and after you drop it off is essential. Together with the company employee, check the state of the bodywork, interiors, technical aspects and accessories. A complete inspection ensures a good hire experience with your vehicle and avoids undue charges.
-
2 Avoid Delays
Whenever possible, arrive 20 minutes before the pick-up time to start your hire comfortably. If you are arriving at your destination by plane, make sure you inform the hire company of your flight number in order to avoid no-show problems if your flight is delayed.
-
3 Additional services offered at the counter
At the time when you pick up your vehicle, hire company employees may offer optional services payable at the hire counter, like category upgrade and additional coverage, among others. These items might improve your hire experience but are in no way mandatory to pick up your vehicle. The decision to contract them is entirely yours.
-
4 International credit card
You must have an international credit card that is valid, allows for a safety deposit hold, and that has been issued under the booking holder’s name by a banking institution. It is imperative that you present the card when you sign the hire contract. Pre-payable or third party credit cards will not be accepted. In some cases, hire companies can request more than one credit card.
-
5 Hire Company Customer Service
On the Booking Confirmation voucher, you will find both the hire company’s contact number and the procedure you should follow to pick up your vehicle. Pay attention to this information because some hire companies do not have a service counter at the airport. In such cases, you should contact the hire company or head towards the designated area so you can use the company’s shuttle service.

3 About toll roads
On the majority of international highways, tolls are electronically operated which means there are no toll booths. Since the majority of vehicles abroad possess transponders for open road tolling, we recommend you purchase an open road toll package directly from the hire company at the counter, where you can benefit from lower rates.
-
4 Fuel Policy
Some of the packages we offer already include fuel service options, which allow for the returning of the vehicle with an empty tank. If this service wasn´t included in your purchased package or contracted at the counter, the vehicle will have to be refuelled before it is returned. If you fail to refuel the vehicle prior to its return, the hire company will charge you an amount larger than what you would have paid refuelling the car yourself.
-
5 Daily Rates of International Bookings
The daily rates of international bookings depend on the pick-up and drop-off times stipulated in the hire contract. Even if your hire period is less than 24 hours, when making payment, the daily rate will consider a 24-hour hire period.
It is important to note that, even if your hire period is less than 24 hours, if you do not show up to drop off your vehicle at the stipulated time, you will be charged an additional full daily rate.

6 Check Your Driving Licence
When you travel abroad, it is necessary that you present your national passport together with your driving licence. Your licence must be valid and you must have at least 2 years driving experience. Some destinations will ask for the International Driving Licence (IDL) together with your regular driving licence. Check in advance whether you need an IDL or not.

8 Hire contract in your language
Some hire companies can offer the hire contract in various languages. You can request they present your hire agreement in your mother tongue. Some legal jargon in the contract can be confusing even if you speak the foreign language.
