Salt Lake City: Plan a High-Altitude Adventure

When you take a trip to Salt Lake City, you'll experience a vibrant city with natural beauty not far away. When you want to head out past the traffic into the wilderness, you can hop in your car rental and travel into the towering mountains. At night, you can retreat back to the city and enjoy a delicious meal.

Urban Exploring

From most parts of the Salt Lake City area, it takes less than 20 minutes to get into the heart of downtown. After you park your car, you can browse the shops at City Creek Center and brush up on your American history knowledge at the Utah State Capitol Building.

At the Gallivan Center, which is just a few blocks south of the Capitol, you can join the crowd for some ice-skating. Or, you can simply watch, have a bite to eat and catch a live musical performance.

Head Up to the Mountains

At the base of the mountains is the Natural History Museum of Utah. You can make a quick stop here before you keep going up Emigration Canyon or head south towards Grandeur Peak. In these areas north and south of I-80, there are miles of hiking trails.

Ski resorts, including Park City, Bald Eagle and Snowbird, are anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour away.

Hit the Park

Liberty Park is only three miles away from Downtown with your car rental. This park has walking trails, a pond, a tennis center and an eight-acre aviary where bird shows are held. Sugar House Park is a few more miles to the southeast. This park has paths and ball fields, and it's right across the street from a popular shopping center.
