Tips on car rental in Brazil
-
1 Be part of the vehicle inspection
Getting involved in the vehicle’s inspection before you pick it up and after you drop it off is essential. Check the state of the bodywork, interiors, technical aspects and accessories along with the company employee. A complete inspection ensures a good rental experience with your vehicle and avoids undue charges.
-
2 Avoid Delays
Whenever possible, arrive 20 minutes before the pick-up time to start your rental comfortably. If you are arriving to the destination by plane, make sure you inform the rental company of your flight number in order to avoid no-show problems if your flight is delayed.
-
3 Additional services offered at the counter
At the time when you pick up your vehicle, rental company employees may offer optional services payable at the rental counter, such as a category upgrade or additional coverage, among others. These items might make your rental experience better, but they are not mandatory in order to pick up your vehicle. It is entirely up to you whether you purchase these services.
-
4 International credit card
You must have an international credit card that allows to put a hold for purposes of a security deposit, is valid and has been issued under the booking holder’s name by a banking institution. It is indispensable that you present the card when you sign the rental agreement. Prepaid or third-party credit cards will not be accepted. In some cases, rental companies can request more than one credit card.
-
5 Rental Company Customer Service
On the Booking Confirmation voucher, you will find both the rental company’s contact number and instructions to pick up your vehicle. Pay attention to this information because some rental companies do not have a service counter at the airport. In these cases, you should contact the rental company or head towards the designated area so you can use the company’s shuttle service.

3 About toll roads
Most international highways have tolls that are electronically operated, which means there are no toll booths. Since most vehicles abroad have transponders for open road tolling, we recommend you purchase an open road toll package directly from the rental company at the counter, where you can benefit from lower rates.
-
4 Fuel Policy
Some of the packages we offer already include fuel service options, which allow you to return the vehicle with an empty tank. If this service was not included in the package you purchased, or if you did not buy this service at the counter, you will have to refuel the vehicle before you drop it off. If you fail to refuel the vehicle upon return, the rental company will charge you an amount that is higher than what you would have paid if you had refueled the vehicle yourself.
-
5 Daily Rates for International Bookings
The daily rates of international bookings depend on the pick-up and drop-off times stipulated in the rental agreement. Even if your rental period is less than 24 hours, when making a payment, the daily rate will take into account a 24-hour rental period.
It is important to note that, even if your rental period is less than 24 hours, if you do not show up to drop off your vehicle at the stipulated time, you will be charged an additional full daily rate.
-
6 Check Your Driver’s License
When you travel abroad, it is necessary that you present your national passport together with your driver’s license. Your license must be valid and you must have at least 2 years of driving experience. Some destinations will ask for the International Driver’s License (IDL) together with your regular driver’s license. Find out whether you need an IDL or not in advance.

8 Rental agreement in your language
Some rental companies can offer the rental agreement in several languages. You can request a copy of your rental agreement in your language. Some legal jargon in the agreement can be confusing, even if you speak the foreign language.
